Finishing
This Brodak Flying Clown is built stock according to the kit plans. The wing is covered with Sig Coverall. I love this stuff. You tack it on with nitrate dope just like silk. And at first it has wrinkles just like silk. But then you hit it with heat from a heat gun and the wrinkles disappear. Coverall makes me look like I know how to cover wings. The built-up wingtips are perfect. Amazing! Once it is shrunk, you just dope like silk.
This Clown has my last traditional dope finish on it. It has about six coats of clear topped by two color coats and four more coats of clear. A lot of work, time , and stinking up the house. And it still doesn't look that great.
