More on the Clowniac

The nose is reinforced with two 1/16 in. plywood doublers laminated over the engine mounts with two sheets of Brodak carbon fiber veil underneath. So the nose is very rigid and strong. With a smooth running ABC engine on board, there will be plenty of vibration free power. And the 3.25 oz. tank means nice long flights.
The cockpit is just one of the wing cutouts cut in half, glued together, and reshaped a bit before being glued to the top of the fuselage.
The rear of the fuse is reinforced with a couple of pieces of 1/16 in. ply. There is a wing skid and a wood screw to make this section last longer since it will bear the brunt of landings.
The rudder is 1/8 in. plywood.
The landing gear is aluminum. I can't remember where I bought it. But it was probasbly Tom Dixon or Stuka Stunt Works. The wheels are 1 1/2 in. foam light wheels with tread.
The engine is mounted on aluminum engine pads from Tom Morris. And the offset is provided by Brodak Wedges under the lugs.
One of the guys in my club (the Sky Lancers of Washington http://skylancers.homestead.com/home.html) named Scotty emphasizes mounting engines this way to reduce vibration and wood damage to the engine bearers. I finally tried it. And man it is much better than blind nuts in the wood.
